Summary: Before playing the card or board game, students take notes on the vocabulary words and directions needed to play the game. The purpose of using card and board games is to develop students’ social conversations and game skills. Some games are also used to teach content. For example, clue can be used to teach prepositions and nouns. To win the game, students must name the correct person (murderer), place (crime scene), and thing (murder weapon). Students are graded on correctly playing the game and using the vocabulary associated with the game. Not all games use language, therefore not all games are appropriate to use. The final task during the game unit requires students to work in groups to learn a game and then prepare a powerpoint to teach the game to the rest of the class.
